Default 1930 standard sports coupe ........ wiper ?

I have just replaced the wooden windscreen frame that came with the car with a correct metal frame . Now I want to replace the motor with a after market 6v model.

How was the original w/m attached ? inside or outside ?
I understand I could drill through the header but the shaft on the original v/motor and replacement 6v motor does not seem long enough to accommodate this ?? What am I missing ?

I replaced my wiper on my 30 standard coupe with a 6v electric. No extra drilling required has hidden toggle switch to activate it. Was advertised as " finally a direct replacement for original wiper". Purchased from reputable vendor and with the exception of being chrome it looks original and works well. Windshield still opens as original. I also replaced my windshield frame with one purchased also from a reputable vendor. It was aluminum I believe.

Does the motor shaft go through the header ??
I have replaced the rotten part of the header lower section.Perhaps I did not see the previous whole .

1930 was the overlap year between electric and vacuum wipers. Is some cases, either type can be used but it depends on the distance between the mounting holes and location of the wiper shaft hole. The early 1930 Sport Coupes were electric but only for January and February. After that, the Trico vacuum wipers took over. The 1929 50A cars had the electric motor on the outside and the same OD-C3 was used on the 1930 so it would also have to be on the outside due to the way the Owen Dyneto C3 was made. The wiper shaft extends into the cab for a hand operating lever to attach on the end of that shaft. The on/off switch lever shaft and the electrical terminal stud also extend through the frame. That terminal has to be insulated from the frame.

New style wipers are an aftermarket wiper motor attached to a custom bracket that is milled from aluminum I think. I've never purchased one due to the price. I hear they also have availability issues right now. They don't work like an original but they were made to bolt up to the windshield frame.

thanks rotorwrench ,

My car being right hand drive make things very difficult getting a frame with the appropriate holes on the right side so I have opted to drill through the head stock rather than drilling new holes through the frame.I have a modern 6v motor that will mount inside but as mentioned before the shaft only just protrudes 1/16th past the outside stock so I will have to countersink the outer stock to take the nut then make a custom shaft extension .Fun times .Its just a driver ,not for show so I am taking liberties to get this old girl back on the road.
