Default 54 mercury front end update

The new bushings arrived and the quality looks good. But they didn't put a slot in the bushing to get it on the bar. Any recommendations as to where to place the slot??

Usually, those without the slot/cut are meant to slide over the bar.

The end of the bar on both ends is pancaked out to hold the end bushing mount assembly. Do you mean somehow they will slide over those ends?? Pretty small hole to widen out that much.

I used a very sharp knife to cut a slot into mine, at a diagonal so they would clamp down more uniformly.

Yes. Clean the bar as necessary and lightly lube the insulator and twist on.

If you cut a slot, the bushing will weather more quickly.

... or, if you have to cut it, make the cut at the lower end so as to have road splash and crud hopefully be able to drain.

I tried everything I could to get those bushing onto the ends of the main rod. No chance.
I had to cut a slit through the back side and slip them on. Then I used 3M weatherstrip adhesive and glued them back together.
