Hey everyone I have bought a bed for my truck. I'm working on a 1930 roadster pickup. I have had a tailgate that I picked up in parts I've bought over time and it is completely different? As I have researched there is 2 styles of beds? Is this bed a wide bed as it has a different style of tailgate? If it is I've read that fenders are almost impossible to find. It's not a points truck so second question can maybe other fenders be modified to work. The red tailgate is the one I bought. Thanks Robert

The first picture is a wide bed, came out about June of 31.They use a 3 hinge gate, with no script. The red bed is 28-until early 31,about June when the wide bed replaced it.That will not fit the bed in your first picture.

Thanks Keith that's what I thought it was a wide bed and the red tailgate would not fit. I do wood working and was going to build a bed out of wood as I did on a huckster. If you look close the red tailgate is made out of wood. I just happened to run across the wide bed and I haven't picked it up yet it supposed to have the tailgate with it. Also I'm sure fenders are special to this bed best I can research. But I thought I could modify another style of fenders. Is this bed hard to find? Thanks again Robert

If that wide bed is as good as it looks I would probably buy it anyway. It wouldn't be correct for your 30,but there would be more than a few willing to trade you for an earlier bed.About 20 years ago I sold a pair of rear fenders for the wide bed. They were either NOS or early takeoffs, scratched and scarred, but no damage.I got $1500.back then, and they went to a reseller. A couple of years later I needed a pair, and bought a set of glass ones. For my personal use I really don't care.

If the top of the front panel is curved/arched, it’s the A version. If it’s straight across the top of the front panel, it’s a 32-34 bed.
It’s tough to tell from the angle of the picture. |
