I'm looking for a couple of members willing to test a new Model A Positive Ground Voltage Regulator
I'm about to start mass production on. I've been working on & sold a couple hundred of the 6v & 12v Model T version that is negative ground and those works really, really well. The Model A version is a redesign of the Model T version for the positive ground Model A. Unlike in the pic below, it also has a screw on the generator input tab for the generator output wire/screw. If you help me, you will get a FREE Model A 6v Voltage Regulator. Here are the params -You MUST be willing to do the following: - Own a Model A w/ Positive ground. (original wiring) - Have a 6v original style generator ( no alternators) - own a decent volt meter. Analog or Digital is fine. - have a mostly original car w/ no LED bulbs - live somewhere that you can drive your car NOW. Not Alaska, Not Detroit or N. Dakota. - be willing to pull up your floor boards, then drive the car and measure the voltages as the regulator is working. Alligator clips are a must here. - be comfortable turning a tiny screw on a circuit board to make adjustments as needed. - send me feedback, call me, talk to me. I need feedback now. I have orders for several hundred of these and I want to make sure they work on a variety of cars/situations before I order 250 assembled circuit boards. That's a heavy investment. Every car is different. Some have incandescent headlights, others have LED. Some have been rewired, others are all original. Each of these situations affect how voltages are measured at the battery, which is all that really matters when it comes to the state of charge. If you're interested, reply to this posting and tell me the following: 1) what year/style car do you have? 2) confirm it has "mostly original wiring" 3) confirm you have all regular light bulbs (NO LEDS). 4) confirm you have a decent volt meter 5) confirm you willing to agree to test and help me and give me feedback NEXT WEEK? I need this data ASAP I'll have test regulators I can ship to you now. Here's a video of it in the car and working https://youtu.be/nHKD_kWA7g8 now, I have alligator clips on the battery and can clearly see the voltage it turns on at (~6.3v) and the fully charged voltage it turns off at (~7.2v). This is what I need you to measure for me. My car has LED bulbs everywhere and fairly new wiring. So this use case is tested. This is great news. I would like to see a 12 volt negative ground version for generators at some point in the future. Won't work on my car that has an alternator and 12 volt negative ground.

1928 roadster pickup, original wiring, all incandescent bulbs, 6 volt positive ground, I have a volt meter. I can drive immediately as Im in Missouri. Giving feedback is no problem.

I hope they don't cost too much because most Model A owners are reluctant to spend money on quality parts. ![]() |

Hi Jeff;
1) I have an early 30 Coupe. 2) It has all original style wiring. 3) All original type incandescent lighting 4) I have a Fluke multimeter similar to the one in your video 5) Willing to test and give feedback next week (except Monday), that is assuming the weather is agreeable (no rain). Live in WV so temps should not be too bad, but rain is definitely an issue. This car is as original as is practical. It's 6 volt positive ground, no LED lights, Generator, original gauge. Circuit boards definitely aren't an issue for me(restore antique radio and TV as a hobby). My portable meter is a Fluke similar to the one you show in your video, so no issues there. Our weather this time of the year is generally pretty decent, although not what I'd call "balmy", the bitter bite of Winter seems like it's behind us now here in the eastern panhandle of WV. Bob |

I'd like to review one, but must insist on paying full price for it.

I'm going to want to buy one,because I'm not a good candidate for testing.I only run LED lights new,and between 3 A's,I would have a poor cross section of driving habits.I haven't had to turn the headlights on in my phaeton for probably 3 years.My coupe and pickup they're on a lot from time to time,then not for months.I prefer this type of regulator for a reason.The kind the Tom W made that went inside the generator also used the cutout.I just prefer the all in one.I put one of Toms in a 28 maybe 15 years ago,still going fine.I just prefer one part that can fail,not two.

On hold due to problems encountered using p- channel MOSFETS. They blow up when you disconnect the battery. Otherwise the circuit works really, really well.
I'd welcome help from anyone in this regard.

I would be willing to test 12V Negative ground. My A is 12V using the original Power house generator and all bulbs. Retired EE and have quite a bit of test equipment including a good O scope.

Great news I have been waiting for someone to start manufacturing them again. I had the Fun Projects version on a previous car and it worked great. Looking forward to purchasing one. Good job, thanks.

I'm still waiting on the schematic, please. I will gladly help with that. I am an electronics (electrical) engineer as my day job. I build/maintain radio and TV broadcast facilities for the last 40 years.
