Default Starter removal

My engine locked up after working on getting it started beginning with setting the timing a few times after cleaning, checking distributer plate, etc over a couple of days. I cranked it last night, didn't start. This morning, locked up, cant crank it, even manually with plugs out. So removed starter bolts to remove starter but it wont budge. How do i get it off? Hammer???? Crow bar??? Advice. 1930 AA

Sorry, I have to ask this question: Did you remove all three bolts?

People have had success putting the car in high gear and rocking it back and forth. Try that.

Remove the 3 bolts, put a strap wrench around starter and rotate it. The starter will release, bolt it all back up and your good to go.

When the starter un-jams, check the Bendix starter driver. It may be the culprit causing the jam.

I have had some success with this by putting the transmission in High gear and gently pushing the car backwards. Obviously Parking Brake off. This gets the flywheel turning backwards (something you can't do up front with a hand crank) and should unjam the Bendix. Then remove it and look for damaged parts.

Leave the starter bolts in, loose, smack the side of the starter with the end (lengthwise) of a piece of 2X4 about 3 or 4 foot long.
