Default Loud ticking on acceleration

A club members 30 Tudor has a loud ticking on acceleration and it sounds like an exhaust leak or a valve banging. It starts right up and idles fine. How can we check for an exhaust leak or a valve noise?
Thanks for your help. Al

Cracked exhaust manifold, leaking muffler clamp fit up, blown Intake/exhaust gasket. Spray wd40, look for soot,
A piece of garden hose will localize the sound.

Check for cracks in the cooling fan, or fan blade close to hoses.

You do know what PING sounds like? Retard the spark, if it goes away you are hearing pinging. Ping will destroy your engine.

Thanks guys. It's not a ping it's more like a harsh snapping sound.
