Default Ultrasoniic cleaner 41 distributor

Any drawbacks to giving all the pieces of the dist a bath in an ultrasonic cleaner?

If you plan to do the housing, you need to remove the upper bushing, oil fitting and felt worm. Otherwise your cleaning solution will be trapped in there and cause a bushing failure. This pertains to 32-41 Distributors only.

For the 42-48 crabs, you also need to remove the felt worm. Some of the crabs have a plug which I removed by drilling, screwing in a screw and then pulling it out like a nail. Once I did that I threaded the shaft to take a set screw. The drill hole was the perfect size for the tap! Also note that I found that both the plug and the set screw had been staked at a few spots around their circumferences. I used a small jeweler's file to remove the staked metal.

I soaked the worms in solvent and rolled them on a cloth to remove all the old oil and solvent. I then soaked the worm in oil which I did for a few days since I was on another project. Note that the worms are different lengths. There is also a very small hole in the smaller diameter on the top, left in my picture, that needs to be cleaned out. The worm oil provides oil to this hole for the bearing.
