Rock Moss Green

Is this image a good representation of Rock Moss Green? I like a darker green over the original Valley/Balsam Green which the car was originally. Want to at least stay with an A color even thought incorrect for this model. Thinking Rock Moss Green/Black reveals & Apple Green Stripe from ‘30/‘31.

My ‘30 ccpu (gone now) was Rock Moss Green. I thought it looked great without the black reveals, and I think the black reveals would be too much. My opinion. But the guy I sold it to put apple green pinstripes on it and it looks fantastic!

do an internet search for Model A pickups and you'll see a majority are rock moss green, beautiful color!

The desirability of any color is a matter of taste. I personally do not like the apple green and like my maroon car with black fenders.

Jay, Yes I thought about that maybe black reveals may be too much contrast. Might consider Brewster Green reveals but will do a mock up to see if compatible. Had car in family for 65 years and was always green.

Colors on a computer monitor are very inaccurate.I had a rock moss green Model A pickup,the pictures of it on the computer NEVER reflected the actual color.I have a Model A coupe that looks black on my friends computer,but on mine it looks like a dark blue.It is really a very deep purple.If I can get the picture to post I will put it up on here.

I agree, a maroon car with black fenders shouldn't have apple green wheels.
Bad taste has limits too !

I’ve seen ccpu in Rock Moss Green with Black wheels and with Apple Green wheels. As long as you can get past that the green wheels are definitely not “commercial”, I think that the two colors contrast very nicely with each other. My ‘31 TS is Kewaunee/Elkpoint with Apple Green wheels and those go together well.

Now, Ford Maroon and Black with Aurora Red wheels and whitewalls, that’s nice also. (On a sedan, not a pickup!)

And Yooper, my taste says don’t paint the reveals on a pickup. Too much busy busy on very simple sheet metal. Especially if you have the black radiator shell.

My pickup is painted green over black, The color is 1949 GMC green. It is not Rock Moss, but when I had the bed apart the green was almost a match. If the sun shines on one side of it the green stands out but the other side almost looks black. Have had people comment on that at different shows!

Hello, standard truck color was rock moss green, with black fenders of course. Ford didn’t even buff off or pin stripe trucks, extra cost.Trucks were meant to be worked, not just sit around looking good!

The wheels on a coupe I had were Aurora red.I always called them orange.They did match the color chart (in a paper book,not a screen) to Aurora red perfectly.The body was Thorne brown with a black roof and reveals.I got it like that,I never would have gussied it up that way.Twin tail lights,step plates,radiator guard,quail,colored wheels and whitewalls.I was going to de-circus wagon it but it got destroyed first.

Thanks for all above for posting comments and pictures. I lean toward the darker colors on the Model A’s and the Blue and Green and Maroon are great examples. On my ‘29 Phaeton project I am going for a basic look. Minimal bling as in side mounts, wind winds etc. I am trying to be faithful to authentic other than body color. It will have a 3rd brake light & turn signals. The Phaeton was one of if not the lowest priced model of the lineup so most were probably originally Plain Jane’s. And now that Nickel plating quote of $3,500 ouch. Well, can’t take it with you as they say

Hello again, I agree with you about all the accessories on most restorations, originally Fords were basic transportation,the 1st owner may have had a hard time getting the down payment. I have taken off some of the accessories off my car , the step plates for example. I was thinking of taking off the passenger side mount, but decided to leave it as is.

A friend of mine now deceased owned this very nice original 1930 82-B pickup.The truck still had its original paint scheme wich looks to be rock moss green.As others have said rock moss was the most common colour found on a model A pickup

Keith, that looks like it may be Lombard blue. I was thinking about using it on my car but went with Washington blue instead. That's a good looking coupe!

For some reason i get the distinct feeling you are not discussing Rock Moss color to be used on a commercial vehicle. May I ask what year and bodystyle you are considering this for? Was Vagabond & Rock Moss available for your year & bodystyle??

Secondly, have you looked at Brewster Green with Black Mouldings?


Finally, I cannot begin to tell you how many customers I've had over the years not like a color combination after it was painted. Because of this, I highly recommend to my customers that we spray an 8½"X11" piece of sheetmetal the colors they have chosen and let them view them for about a month to make sure that is the color they like. So often they have seen incorrect colors that the Model-A owner told them was a certain color however that color did not match the Model-A Paint & Refinish color chips. Have your paint store mix a half-pint of all colors and do a sprayout to make sure your combination is what you want.

Brent TN, I am working on a ‘29 Phaeton and not a commercial vehicle. Getting close to finishing metal work. Never know what you got until you get into it. Just have side curtain pan to fix and will be done. I use old splash aprons for fabricating the patch panels. I will certainly do a mock up before committing to paint scheme. Already have a bit invested in rattle can samples.
