Default Shocks

Should the rear axle be on stands to check fluid level on lever shocks ?

Like the transmission and differential, the shocks are to be filled only to the level of the inspection hole on the side. This procedure requires the car to be sitting level.

I got her done today,both were down 3 ounces,I feel better now.

I've got everything ATF to hydraulic oil that goes into them, what's your take on that ?

In my '39 pickup, I drained the shocks by their removal, flushed them and refilled with hydraulic oil (I believe.) I marked the mid line of the adj with yellow paint and set them in that position (They were all over the marking scale.
