Default First dragster

This was captioned as “Don Garlits’ first dragster. Looks like early 50s. Probably posted in the past.

Even Don was young once. I know he started with a flathead, but switched to a hemi very early on. That Oldsmobile appears to have a one piece windshield which makes it a 1950 which was probably a new car when the picture was taken. (OK, OK, it could be an early 1951 88 series, but that fits as well.)

Hey Denny, How about that two tone car in the background with the white top? I was wondering 52-53 Ford maybe.

Could be, but it's really not clear enough to be definite. Personally, I think it looks like a '50 Buick. As said, I'm not even sure about the year of the Olds. Even if it is a '52 Ford, that would be pushing it. The story I have heard is that Don pulled his first hemi out of a '51 Chrysler wagon when it was only a couple of weeks old.

But we all know about "stories".
