Howdy boys, I will be picking up the 239 V8 from the builder for the pickup Monday! I have the frame and running gear ready to go! Can't wait to hear it run! It's been at least 40 years since I've driven it, so this will be a great thing. Just wish grandad was still around to see it. I'll keep you posted!

Picked up the engine and it turns out it's not a '48! The block and heads show '52 as the build date, according to my builder. This block had a rebuild tag on it when I took it apart, which showed it being bored .060. It cleaned up at .080, so I should be good! Lots of new parts! Block and heads were fine, no cracks! I recall I told my Uncle that the pickup had 37K miles on it when I received it, and he said "Hell, it's probably 137K! He (meaning Grandad) drove it all the time!". So, my theory is the pickup had a reman placed in it at some point. Fine with me, it was still grandads pickup! I'll stay in touch!

Ok boys, time for a technical question. On the left head, the oil filter is mounted. There are 3 threaded holes at the top of the head, just under the filter mount, that are apparently not used. I thought they were for the filter mount, but it is attached with the head bolts. So, now I have to remove the already torqued head bolts, install the mount, then retorque. Dang it, I was hoping I could use those other holes. What are they for? Thanks guys, many more questions to come!

I think there is another filter setup which mounts to those holes, post 48.

Not so fast. There are two versions of the heads. The earlier ones (through 1949) had the filter mounted with the head bolts. sometime in the early fifties, Ford went with a version of the filter that mounted on the separate smaller bolts. You now have later heads with an early filter. I think the best solution would be to get the later, proper oil filter/mount. The way guys suggest discarding these filters (to which I strongly disagree, BTW), one should be pretty easy to find.

There's one on eBay now, but I consider it to be way overpriced. If you don't get any responses here, start with Shoebox Central (they have a bunch of used parts) or maybe Southside Obsolete (barnfind08 on this forum).

OK boys, another question. I have a 7RA distributor (cast iron) on this engine, and I took it apart to clean it and noticed the upper bushing has no hole drilled in it. Is it a sintered bronze bushing? It appears there is some wick material in the oil hole with the flip cap, which I've been trying to remove, since it is very dirty, and discovered no hole in the bushing. If it's sintered bronze I should be good, as it seems plenty tight, very slight if any movement. And, how do you recommend I pressurize the oil gallery? Thanks Oh learned ones!

Howdy boys, I just attempted to paint my block with POR-15 Engine Enamel. Not impressed. Dried way too fast for me! So, I think I'd rather try spraying it. Can't find an aerosol POR engine paint? They show high temp paint, but not in "Classic Ford Red". So, what's your thoughts? This area is definitely not in my area of expertise! Thanks guys!
