Please don’t heat them. Gas tank is right there.
I would cut them off and replace with new ones. Be careful banging on them. You don’t want to distort firewall or effect the radiator. That you time. |

Are you talking about the three rods hinging the hood panels? If so, remove the hood, stand it on end, and soak each of the hinge points with penetrating oil repeatedly. Repeat until tapping gets them to move. You may need to go to the hardware store and get some solid rod to use as a punch. After you get a bit of the rod sticking out, more oil, chuck the exposed end in a drill motor, and slowly turn and extract. Do this only on the solid side rods, the center rod is a tube and will twist on you. You’ll need to punch that one out using a long punch (the solid rod mentioned above). Penetrating oil is your friend. I use Kroil penetrating oil. Heat at your risk, the hood panels are sheet metal and you don’t want to warp them. And of course heat will destroy paint…

Hello, if you can grab the end of the rod with a drill chuck , you can turn them to loosen them up along with penitrating oil that’s how I got mine out . Hitting the ends just flared the rods go slowly as the hinges could break. Good luck.

Everyone is right with there thoughts. Remember it took years to seize up. So soak it and give it two or three weeks. soak it everyday. On the center hollow tube drive it out far enough to get a drill on it. find a piece of rod or a drill bit that will fit inside of the hollow tube then clamp on to the tube with the drill and give it a try. You usually have to try the drill each direction until it loosens up. JP

I made some fittings to attached to the rods and used a slide hammer to “gently” persuade it out.
All the above is good No heat. |

It is possible to pry open the part of the hood that covers the hood rod . Don't open them to much . They are quite easy to return them to the original shape

Figment
Imho that equates to tearing up the hood. Resizing/compressing the rounds back to shape is quite a task; I don’t find it “easy “ to reshape. I have to sometimes compress them because they are sprung and enlarged Just imho |
