Need info wondering if 1940 and 1941 truck hoods are the same. I know the hood latch assembly under the nose is different between 40and 41 but can you use a 41 hood in a 40 truck. Grills are the same so??

Pretty much the same except for the hood ornament, side emblems and lower hood trim. The centre stainless strip is about an inch shorter also.

There is a big difference in the upper latch mechanism and the lower grill brace. The '41 pickup hood also has a couple of half moon cutouts near the front of the hood on the lower lip. The hood was cut out to clear the radiator being moved forward for the 6 cylinder motor. that's why the upper latch and lower grille brace are different. The Early Ford V-8 Club sells a small book for $10 which explains the many differences between the '40 and '41 pickups. The 41 pickup hood handle is not reproduced and commands a hefty sum if you find one. Better to use the '40 hood, upper latch and lower grille brace and save yourself a lot of $ and grief looking for parts.

mid production 41 hoods (big truck) had the latch mechanism changed to allow for a 6 cylinder engine. big truck 40's could only come with V8--60/85/95 hp but 41's could come with 4/V8/6 engines. 40 hoods had a V8 stamped into them, 41's did not, 41 also had wider chrome nose and different wiskers on hood

OK, I'm not that smart after all. I just took my hood ornament off and it has a C in the number? So what is the difference between T and C part number?

The 1/2-ton pick-ups (as well as sedan deliveries) are actually called "Commercial" vehicles, hence....the "C". Bigger, heavy-duty trucks were known at Ford as "Trucks", hence....that pesky "T". DD |

You can also use the hood off a 40 and 41 PANEL TRUCK half ton on a pickup bit not off a sedan delivery. Sedan delivery used a passanger car nose and cowl

Thanks guys. I had it backwards. I am missing the hood latch that attaches to the hood ornament. I assume the same applies to that item also.

Did all the 41s have the different hood latching mechanism, or just those with a 6 cyl? They really stretched the design to accommodate the 6 and made it very weak structurally. I had a 41 6 cyl for parts and the hood was collapsed due to being slammed shut too many times.

When the hood design changed to accommodate the 6 cylinder, that hood design was used on all the half ton models.

Do the hood hinges on a 41 Pickup have some adjustment built into them as I need to move my back about 1/2 an inch?
