I have been trying to order some brass floats from Reenlee Kotas for a couple of months. He is not returning my messages. I hope everything is alright with him. Anybody have contact with him recently?

I have gotten them from Mikes-A-fordable, and it looks like they may have them in stock.

I originally had a cork float, when it sunk it got replaced with a brass one, it cracked and sunk after 18 years, last 20 years has been a modern car black one that was used already and came out of the trash.

Whatever float you use has to be able to fit through the hole for the gauge.
Modern cars floats are rarely a problem, and brass last better than cork , the new stuff even still floats if a chunk is broken off, |

highly recommend the brass floats from Mikes affordable. Easy to install and your gas gauge problems will end.

A float from a Tillitson carburetor will fit through the tank opening. You can solder it on to the end of the wand. They are pricey from the suppliers. A number of years ago you could pick up a Tillitson at a swap meet for $5. That is what is in my Victoria.

Check out the plastic floats sold for use in riding lawnmowers and garden tractors.

Took a gas gauge out of a model a years ago that had a Christmas tree light bulb wired to the shaft, used as a float.

That's a novel idea.

The A-9313-C composition float is the same black closed cell material used in small engine floats today and is not affected by todays fuels. These are a direct replacement for the original cork float. Don't see any sense in reinventing the wheel to retrofit a brass float. We have sold thousands of these and not had any problems.
