I have a 41 mercury flathead and need the upper rear main seal retainer. Van Pelt has one for 8BA. Will that upper part fit my mercury? If not where get one?

Firstly, you need to ascertain which style crankshaft is fitted in the engine; one with double slinger or full seal?

If you need the rope seal version you are looking for 91A 6335
New and used shown as available on Reds Vintage Parts website, link to the used one:

If you need the labyrinth seal version you are looking for 78 6335
Used shown as available on Reds Vintage Parts website, link:

Other vendors probably have these as well, these were simply the first I found listed as in stock and had pictures.

When we took the engine apart, it had the rope seal. I took the top piece to Hershey to buy a new one, and someone stole it off my dolly. Thanks for the info.
