I have developed a jig to facilitate differential handling during the rebuilding process. It is still evolving, but the intent is to eliminate the handling issues associated with the awkwardness of a 4 plus foot long drive shaft hanging off the housing to set pinion pre-load, and allow quick setup utilizing the venerable shop vise. It is made from simple parts most of us have around the shop, and it re uses cups and cone bearings discarded from the rebuild process. The barrel is made from a piece of schedule 40 3.5" pipe, and the body is a piece of structural angle iron. The mandrel for setting pinion bearing pre-load is a section of the old drive shaft repurposed as well. More detail on this mandrel to follow, it was also used to set the carries up in the lathe to knurl the slightly undersized journal on one of the carrier halves to provide a tight pressed fit on the new carrier bearing.
My wife is soon to undergo surgery for breast cancer so there will probably be some delay in followup, but more to follow up on this process... |

Beautiful job. Look forward to further explanation .............. but for now, most important to take good care of your wife. Best of luck with her surgery.

I am a cancer survivor, and I pray to God that your wife will be to.

I too am a cancer survivor. Been in remission since 2015. Wife had double mastectomy in 2017. Both of us are healthy now. Praying for your wife. Prayer works! |

Sincere thanks to all you fellows. The prayers are greatly appreciated, Jesus has no limits he showed us that over and over still. When he called Lazarus out of the grave he called him by name, had he not every dead man in the region would have come forth. He is still there and miracles still can happen...May God bless you all.
