Default The piece the door window crank handle attaches to

I shut the door today on my 28 panel truck and the door window crank came flying off. Upon closer review the square piece that the window handle set screw attaches to broke off on one side of it.

I looked in the parts catalog and nothing is listed for this particular part. Do I have to buy a whole new window crank assembly?

Is there an easy fix or trick to this? (I do want to be able to remove it if need be in the future!)

You have to replace the assembly that works the gears in the riser. Take the riser winder apart. Originals were pot metal or close. Easier to replace the whole riser. Check with Bert’s and get the “better ones”….$75?

I don't see a quick fix.

Remove the door panel to have a look. The broken shaft you have is made of pot metal as mentioned by Oldbluoval. The mechanism could be taken apart and a new shaft made of steel to replace it. This assumes the capability to remove it from the mechanism, manufacture the new part and reassemble it.

As Oldbluoval has stated it would most likely be easier to replace the whole mechanism. Before dismantling, take photographs of everything and also during disassembly and reassembly. Sometimes the smallest things can be missed that make it function properly so it is good to document.

It may not be quick but hopefully it will work as it should.

Yes, replace the regulator.

I have troubleshot many original regulators, there were many variations (different suppliers to Ford?). Some have pot-metal shafts, some steel. Pinion gears and shafts often do not interchange between styles.

Snyders and Vintique both make regulators. Snyders costs a bit more and is higher quality. It's the one I currently handle.
