Hello All.
Another newbie question. This time about wishbones. I'm curious about model year differences. I recently bought a '39 pickup that had about a 8" section cut out of the top half of the driver side wishbone. Then they welded a piece of angle iron to the bottom. Who knows how long ago, or why. In my search for brake drums, I found a "trailer" for sale, and the frame is a late 30's Ford front suspension. Wide 5 bolt pattern hubs and wheels, but I can't see much in the ad beyond that. I'm going over tomorrow to look at it. Just wondering since it has a wishbone included, are there are specific differences to look for.?. Car vs pickup the same? Ken |

35/36 one type [narrower than 37/40] Will work in '39 with 35/36 axle [2" axle boss] . 37/40 wider stance and 2 1/4" axle boss. Buy V8 books -Join V8 Club. Newc

For the un-initiated, the different wishbones are made to fit the particular year of the I-beam axle involved. The axles can differ in both overall width measured at the king pin CENTERS, as well as the distance between the perch pins measured on center of the perch holes. The individual wishbones for the V8 years ('32 - '48) are: 1932 1933-'34 1935-'36 1937-'40 1941 ONLY 1942-'48 If you measure the distance between perch holes, we should be able to come close. 1939 axles should have perch holes at 38-1/2" C to C. The king pin holes on a '37 - '40 axle would be 48-1/2" C to C, measured at the TOP of the king pin holes. Coop . |

Much easier than reading a book. Just kidding! I promise to buy books and educate myself. But I'm still going to ask stupid questions. Ken |
