Here is what you get from Renner's Corner. The round tag was on a zenith I bought on ebay, the first good running zenith I've bought. I've asked several carb "rebuilers" whether they used flow tested jets and the typical response is "don't need to I test them on my Model A." So much for good running carb by accident. I give up on zenith carbs without flow tested jets. Bad luck with those turned me to running Tillys.

NO ONE should accept a "rebuilt" carb without flow tested jets!

I'm a little confused, are you saying Renner's flow-tested both, or that you bought a carb from them that was not, while an e-bay carb was, or what?

I also bought an ebay carb that had a tag on it with the flow testing results(not by Renners Corner). Lucky me I didn't know it was flow tested when I bought it.

Anything rebuilt is only as good as the parts that went into it.

I put Renner's jets in my Zenith and saw no difference in performance or mileage from my older jets. IE, about 15 mpg. Maybe my old ones were just fine, though they flow tested way out of specs.

I read once that the quality of gasoline in the Model "A" era was of lesser "quality" than today's, which means I guess that the octane was lower back then. does that translate into our needing smaller-sized jets for today's usage?

My car ran a whole lot better with their jets. Got better mpg and idle smoother.

Back in the 30s without lead gasoline octanes were 70-75 research octane. The octane of the gasoline was whatever it was in the crude cuts and some thermally cracked stocks. Today the regular unleaded is 90-92 research octane(92 research + 82 motor = 87 R+M/2) There was no motor octane back in the 30s. Today's refineries blend no crude cuts into gasoline. All the gasoline today is either catalytically cracked, reformed on platinum catalyst, or alkylated and almost totally desulfurized to 15ppm sulfur. None of those processes existed in the 30s. So basically you're saying that jet flow doesn't matter because yours are way out of spec and perform the same as ones that are in spec. Makes you kind of wonder if carburetion/jetting isn't your problem? Hummm.

David, this post is nearly 8 years old now, ...and to the best of my recollection he no longer even owns a Model-A any longer.

I paid a visit to Mr. Renner, and yes, he does have a few Model-A's. So I have physically seen them and they are all in a state of restoration.
