In today's video I wanted to put an idea I had into practice. Lathe work, drilling, tapping, parts modified. What's not to like?

Mart, no matter what, wearing gloves while using rotating equipment is a recipe for dis-aster. Aside from that, I did the same thing with a piece of aluminum, except mine has provisions for the Ford / Holley type carburetors as well as for Stromberg carburetors. sometimes the lip of the carburetor is bent, or distorted and needs a little cleaning up. This type of fixture makes it a lot easier.

Good points Nick . . . the same goes for any sort of long-sleeved shirts, sweat shirts, jackets, jewelry/watches, etc..
Anything that can get caught in the machine is a serious No-No. Had a friend a couple years ago, running his Mill with just a small bit (like a 3/8"), had cloth gloves on. He went to "wipe a chip off" the bit while running - it caught his glove and ripped a finger right off of his hand. Gone! And as one would guess, an index finger on his dominant hand. Hell, he'd probably done that same thing a zillion times (he's in his 70's, not inexperienced) - it only takes "one mistake at the wrong time" - to seriously hurt yourself - or even kill you. Always think about "the worst that can happen" around machine tools of any kind. B&S |
