Default Another 1946 Ford Question, Choke and Throttle Rods.

Since we purchased this car, it's been a two person job to cold start this since the choke and throttle rods are missing from the car. I want to keep this car as original as possible. I have no idea of what I need, can the group send me in the right direction of where to find these, what I need, etc.

I'm learning and want to preserve this car. It still has the original seat covers, and they are excellent. I have a radio but not all of the rods to mount it. We really don't care if it works, it's real clean and will fill the dash.

Here are a few folks you need to keep in mind for parts:

1. Third Gen Automotive, Micheal Driskell
2. Southside Obsolete, Fred Willner
2. Joe's Antique Auto

These folks have NOS and reproductions parts. Fred is all NOS and the other two have both. They are all very well versed in Ford parts and part numbers. The big national vendors are fine but you'll get a more personalized experience with these 3.

Thanks for the info. I will check there for availability.

I went through this exact search 5ish years ago - it will be frustrating, and difficult. Perhaps there have been more NOS stashes unearthed. At the time, after several false starts, I was able to find a workable set.

Unfortunately, I don't seem to have a clear picture of the rods at hand. If able, I'll get one tomorrow. In addition to the rods, there are small firewall brackets keep them aligned. Will capture images of the entire setup.

I can also report, that trying to cobble the earlier versions into usability was a failled mission.

Your mileage may vary.

I bought a used throttle cable for my 42 after a fruitless search for a NOS one. The rubber joints are being reproduced. At one point the choke and throttle cables were being reproduced but there doesn't appear to be any left. For sure 42-8 are the same (v8) and 41 I think may also work. The only difference will be the color of the knobs which you can get reproduction. The rods to mount the radio are being reproduced. I think Dennis Carpenter has them and there may be other sources.
