Hi all. I'm trying to install my upper stanchions but the studs mounted to the factory lower stanchions seem to be too long even with the small s.s. washers. When I tighten the wing nuts, they bottom out before they get tight. Is there a spacer under the stanchion? Thanks.

There should be a steel cup on the windshield side of the stanchion. Are you perhaps missing that?
Example in link https://www.mikes-afordable.com/product/A37137L.html |

If the steel cups mentioned above are not missing, they might be worn enough that the wing nuts do not hold the stanchion securely. On occasion, I have added one or two of the small stainless washers to compensate for the wear. Seemed to work ok and are not very noticeable

I needed one wingnut, ordered one from snyders , the repo's are cast a tad smaller, there for the hole could not be drilled deep enough making the same problem you have, bottoms out .
