I've got a '55 that I'll be starting on soon and I was digging parts out of my stash for it to see what I needed to get yet. I came across a set of B5A bumper guards marked "rear", but when I looked them over I can't for the life of me figure out what they're for.
Even though the contour fits my bumper perfectly, they aren't for any '55 that I've seen. As far as I know, I believe Mainlines didn't have guards, but everything from Custom on up had the standard guards front and rear. This is my car and what all '55 guards that I've seen look like... ![]() These are what the guards I pulled out of NOS Ford boxes look like. I've spent a couple hours looking at pictures and can't find anything that resembles these... ![]() ![]() |

Good grief! Never mind, I just figured out they're for a station wagon. Realized when I thought about them being so short....then it hit me...the tailgate!

I think the wagon guards would look better on the 55.

![]() I wondered about that myself. I have a set of regular NOS guards, but the chrome isn't as nice as these. I may give them a looksee when the time comes. I spent probably 1 1/2 hours looking at pictures, different years, different Ford brands and body styles before I posted, and 1 minute after I did, it dawned on me. 1 minute to look at station wagon pictures and BINGO. Ugh! |

It would have been easy just to check out the part number, wouldn't it?

I did a Google search on it and got nothing but newer bumper guards. I did know that B5A was a standard '55 part number. Believe me, I spent quite a bit of time on it before posting. I hate even asking questions like these unless I have to, and I don't have parts books to cover every car.

Cjshaker, I have the 49-59 parts books. Don't have a body parts one though. PM me anytime if you need me to check a number for you.
