Default What happened to Dave Mellor NJ?

I'm missing the great photos he posted almost daily.

He quit posting after Ryan asked him to consolidate them into one regular picture related post.

I agree with Ryan. It was a reasonable request, as I found his frequent disconnected posts distracting.

This site should be about real cars, not pictures.

Hey Denny, was it so distracting that you could not just skip over to the next post that was of "your" interest ? I find it interesting that Ryan would request it to be in a picture thread, when there is no such thing here unlike the hambs "pics of days gone by", or whatever it is. I have no idea what the hit counters were showing but I'm sure Ryan does as he does this for a living. So, If dave's pics were getting lots of hits, lots of comments....even from you occasionally Denny , isn't that kinda like shootin yourself in the foot? Ryan,...just collect the check, and let us look at old pics.

I'm a new member over at the FTE (ford truck enthusiast), talk about boring, some days no new post at all. Good site to ask questions, but no innocent chatter at all. I like it all, wanna see the grand kids in the parade, ( Denny...you must be upset by now...please move on to the next post, no stories about your old race car with a hemi...thats not barn stuff)

Most of us here are up in age, not necessarily in a hurry every morning, (I believe) So whats wrong with some OT chatter, and if you don't like it move on...Its the back button for me

I agree with cas3!

I do miss his individual pix of the past. Seems to me, if hot rod posts, pix etc are allowable in these areas set aside for restoration work and such projects... for sale. tolerated... seems some allowance could be... should be made.

after all, fair is fair!

Thank you for listening to my opinion, and hopefully tolerating it! ~

Photos take up digital space on a forum. More so than just typed words. Each thread is a separate file so if a person posts a lot of files then that adds up too. The boss would be more accepting of a recurrent thread with lots of posted photos than lots of threads. It just the way that computer memory is stored that takes up the band width on a server set. Too much band width complicates things.

I agree with tubman. I liked the pictures, but found the titles to the many, many threads strange. Other forums have threads dedicated to pictures and they are enjoyed. One site I am on has a member who collects related pictures and then posts 5 to 10 pictures in a row with a common theme in a new thread, which works well. Again, I liked the pictures he was posting, but prefer they be less chaotic in their presentation.

I not only liked his vintage posts pix, I thot the ensuing FordBarn member's commentary went a long way to make one of his pix into an enjoyable thread. seems they all turned into a thread. my question would be how does one best define one thread from another... so as to differentiate quality? suitability? once the pix becomes a thread, is it any different than a T thread, A thread, '40 Ford thread, '51 shoebox thread... or the endless # of engine threads? or: How about: How do I do this? threads?

Thank you for listening to my opinion, and hopefully tolerating it! ~

very good post thirsty. Yes, the ensuing commentary made it fun, and you may learn a thing or two. When a poster has a question about how to fix a window in a 38 whatever, I don't follow it because I have no 38. When a new comment is made on the old pic thread, I always look, or used to, to see what I may learn that others have spotted.
Sometimes it gets silly, but whats wrong with a little humor around here?

I am no stranger to the forum format. on one forum i used to post frequently on, it was one fun post/thread after another. (usually, lol) but lots of serious threads, postings, etc., too. i really enjoyed the forum and the back n forths. I left it, but for no negative reason. I joined another forum last year, as I was involved with same subject as forum theme. To be polite, let me just say: too dry, too critical... so while i have not deleted my membership, i do not go to the forum any more. and any emails, etc... telling me this or that about the forum... i just DELETE!

I found myself doing the same as you, cas3 - often, if not always... would revisit Dave's threads to see what 'the boys' had added. lol many other threads I pass on. can't read them all! but, imo... plenty good historical infereneces... and plenty good commentary, too!

well, imo. Thank you!

I think, as the numbers of Dave’s followers chime in, the vast majority of us enjoy reminiscing and joking about the old pictures Dave posts. We’ve heard that Ryan requested that he stop, which may or may not be true, maybe just an opinion. I don’t see that any rules have been broken, and as a matter of fact, others have posted similar pics in the same period of time and continue doing so. I’m thinking Dave may have quit on his own, or ran out of material!

Why not just continually post on a thread labeled "Days gone by pics"? The subject matter would be along the same subject without all the individual threads
