Good morning, I'm installing turn signals and need to know the source of the fused lead to the flasher. Thanks a bunch Joe

It will have to come off either the battery or the electrical buss somewhere. We'll need to know what vehicle you are installing for.

Not the battery, you want it switched off when key off. Any accessory wire or hot in run wire should do.

John mentioned the best source for power. When FoMoCo first installed turn signals for major production use in 49 they connected them from the flasher unit to the GA or gauge terminal (accessory). But some of the early cars don't even have a buss or fuses. That's why we would have to know the particular year model in question in order to give a more accurate answer. As long as it has a fuse close to the power source, the system would be protected. If connected straight to a non-switched electrical power source, you would always have to remember to make sure the signals are off after you put the car back in the garage.

If you have the key off for the flasher, How about in an emergency, when you turn on the 4 way then you need constant power?. I wired my last set up like that on my 47 but would like to have key off for the turn signal flashers and power for the 4 way flashers. I'm using a Sig-Stat 7 wire on a 40.Input?? Thanks Ken

Adding a 4-way flasher system could be a little tricky. This is easy to do or may even be included on an aftermarfet add on system that has separate lamps from the park/tail lights but requires a special switch to parallel all four lamps on an OEM system. This usually bypasses the turn signal switch and doesn't block the brake lamp signal. It could be done with a separate flasher unit connected direct to the hot buss through a separate fuse and a larger terminal board to allow the necessary parallel connections for the right & left lamps.
