Default spring shackle bushings

Hi, Can the front and rear spring shackle bushings be rebuilt without a spreader bar?
Thanks

Yes, if you remove the spring.

Please tell us what year ,make and model car you are working on.

I believe i have read on Fordbarn that some years do not require a spring spreader in order to safely remove the spring.

PLEASE do your homework on this . A Fordbarn search will help.

In my mind, you'll need to remove the springs no matter what - and potentially roll the rear-front ends out from under the car so you can actually have access to work on them.

If your car has the older pressed in bushings (steel shells), they are NOT each to replace while everything is in the car. It is tough getting the old ones out (usualy requires some creative slicing/dicing) - and you can bet you'll need to do it on the front/rear spring perches as well. Not trying to rain on your parade, just being realistic.

Beings that the easiest method of removing old bushings is with the hot wrench, you don't want to be doing that while under the car. Ask me how I know.

Yep - I used a flame wrench with the rear out of the car . . . blew the center out and then took the outer casing out with a hack-saw blade.

thanks all. It is a 1940 ford pickup with no cab mounted so i can get at everything. I was hoping to put new bushing in with out tearing all apart. I know the bushing is hard to get out.
