Default New (to me) spark problem

I said above that this is new to me, just wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

Today, I went to move my AA from one garage bay to the other and started it like I always do... Turn on gas, gear shift in neutral, spark up, switch on, pull choke and hold for 1/4 revolution. The truck started as usual, let it idle for about 30 seconds and backed it out of the bay. When I went to pull it into the other bay, it stalled. Tried to start and nothing, nada... The engine cranked and cranked but nothing. I pulled the distributor cap off and then made sure that the rotor did not un-seat from its usual place and IT SPUN! When I inspected the underside of the rotor I discovered the little dog that keys the rotor to the shaft was completely shaved off. Never saw that happen before. I popped another rotor on and pulled it into the bay....
