Parked along the curb- outside of judging field was a '32 tudor original type project car with some parts. Several folks and the owner noted that the serial number was 441* . Yep ended with only 441* A March '32 frame ?? Inspected by several good folks. V8 early car. Newc

The owner is a friend of a good friend of mine. I haven't met the owner yet. I think the grandad of the current owner bought it new, and his dad used it in his daily business and wore the original engine out long ago and had it replaced by the dealer. Now the grandson wants to try to put it back together as best he can. Pretty cool 3-digit VIN.

All of the biggest challenges are components that were attached to the original engine starting with the oil pan and separate steady rod brackets.
That, of course, assumes that he can find a so-called "flange block" with the oil dip stick hole in the block on the right side back in front of the bell housing. From what I have observed over the years, that second version of the '32 V8 block with the integral steady rod holes in the bell housing is somewhat scarcer than the first version that used the more-widely-spaced separate brackets bolted to the sides of the bell housing. Yours likely dates from mid-to-late April, 1932 and had a high four-digit or very low five-digit sequential build number. Unless altered, the center cross member of 18-441 has no holes in it for the attachment of the steady rods used with the second production version of '32 V8 engine blocks, such as yours. The first production version of V8 blocks used the same center cross member attachment holes as the steady rods for four-cylinder engines. Last edited by DavidG; 07-19-2022 at 11:05 AM. |
