I have this black plastic thing-a-ma-bob doohicky that I have no idea what it is or where it goes. The rats found it and decided it would be a good piece of plastic to gnaw on. Here is a pic of the Ford engineering number. I looked on the internet for this nuber but drew blanks. Any one have any idea what this is based on the engineering number (C8AB-62130A46-A)? The car is a 1968 Galaxie 500, and this was on the rear floorboard when I opened to door. Pretty sure it wasn't laying there when I parked the car 8 years ago. I'm thinking the rats found it and moved it to the floorboard.

Is it some sort of coil spring isolator? I don't know
The "C8..." I believe means 1968, so that would apply to your car. |

It would help to post a photo of the entire part, not just the number.

ok, it seems to be at least 1/2 gone. But here are some pics of whats left. I'm wondering if it might be some wire shield from under the dash, like maybe near the steering column. It seems rodents were chewing on wires on the driver's side near the firewall.

I wonder if there is a way to positively identify the part using the engineering number?

Yes, but you would need the correct period text. It is called a MASTER CROSS REFERENCE LIST. I only have reference up to the 1964 model year.

Could it be a plastic dust shield housing that goes around
the gas pipe filler neck to the quarter panel... .

That makes sense. Looks like some rats chewed their way from the engine compartment to the interior of the car, or from the interior to the engine compartment via the firewall at the steering column hole.
