Can anyone explain what is a "spider deluxe" Roadster as shown in todays "Model A of the Day"? Is this a French built car or a typo?
Thank You! |

That is a name they use in Europe for a roadster. Thus it is a Deluxe Roadster. There is a French name for it but it escapes me right now. Old age you know. Gar

Isn't deluxe a French word?
How do I visit the site for the Model A of the day?

Bonjour:
Here is the photo: "Spider" is the generic French word used for a Roadster type car and originates, some say, from the french bastardization of the english word "Speeder" (speedster) or from the look of a 1700's high wheeled, convertible carriage, with four wheels, which some say looked like a spider. So a French "spider de luxe 1929" is 1929 Deluxe Roadster. The correct word in French for Roadster is however either Torpédo (used by Ford in France in 1928-1929) or "Roadster" (used by Ford in France in 1930-1932 etc) "Spider" is also the french word for rumble seat. Vive la France! ![]() ![]() ![]() Brad in Maryland PS: There is a Facebook group for French Model A owner's if you would like to practice your French: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1134746380225437 Last edited by Brad in Germany; 04-21-2022 at 03:52 AM. |
