My brother and I got into a discussion recently about a new car our father bought years ago. It was a 1934 Tudor Deluxe. I have a figue in mind that I seem to remember that he said he paid for it but that was probably fifty years ago. What would one of them have sold for then?

Fifty years ago, as opposed to eighty-years ago when it was a new car, likely not much more than $500 assuming that it was in decent condition.

I guess I did not make myself clear. Dad was buying a new '34 Tudor in 1934. The reference to fifty years ago was when he told me what he paid for it. Sorry for the confusion! I think DD picked up on it right off the bat though.

If I can trust my fifty-plus year old memory of that conversation, I seem to remember him saying he paid $550 for the car, new from a Ford dealer somewhere in Iowa.

The Great Depression was on, and money was very tight, from what I learned.
Your dad was one of the more fortunate people, to afford a new car at any price. .

From a Google search.
Ford's flathead V8 produced 85 horsepower from 221 cu in. of displacement. This model was equipped with a 3-speed transmission and a single downdraft carburetor, and it weighed a feather-light 2,461 pounds. It sold for $575 when new in 1934 — or almost $11,000 today when adjusted for inflation.Aug 13, 2018 I just saw an invoice for a '32 3W when sold new in July 1932 in Calif. $762.
