Windshield Cloudiness

Have you guys experienced your windshield developing moisture in the middle?

I believe I have the original, it fogs up this time of year but clears up in the summer.

Can't access the moisture since it's in the interior pane. Assume I can't fix. It's getting worse so I'll likely have to update & replace.

Original glass is bad to just delaminate or come apart. I had a Vic side window that when I got it out, it separated into 3 pieces! Two glass and the center plastic!
I’ve never seen a fogged one “come and go”; when cloudy/fogged it stays that way

two types
1-winshields from the factory are laminated. 2pc of glass with plastic in between. the glass stays together when it breaks
2-tempered side windows and back glass. turns into diamonds when it breaks.

most people use laminated for all the windows in their model A/ it is easily cut by any glass shop.
but
if you want tempered for your SIDE and BACK windows that can be made as well. the glass shop cuts and fits the glass from plate glass then the glass is sent away to be tempered.
i have had a few done, there is not seam along the top exposed edge and it will never delaminate. you don't want it for a windshield because when it breaks it turns into a million flying shards of glass.

That’s delamination , common on most cars from the 1930s on up , in the 1950s 60,s area Pennsylvania state inspection had charts to show how much “fogging “ was allowed to pass state inspection,I remember a nice 1937 Studebaker being junked because glass would not pass and wasn’t worth replacing glass, this was around 1970.

Don't take a short cut on your glass. Windshields are low cost enough to replace. If the lamination is letting go, you will have large shards of glass trying to cut you and your passengers into pieces. Not a pretty sight. You can replace all the glass in your car for about $600. Who would you like to put at risk for $600?

All set thanks guys - I will replace for all the reasons stated.

Next will be to determine whether I order from one of the catalog suppliers or have a local glass shop custom cut.

I'd prefer to pay to have everything done locally.

i would have it cut by the glass shop.
they can do it all or they can cut the glass and you can do it, choices

if you do it you will need the packing, the glass shop can most likely supply that too

on a windshield there are no exposed edges. on a door window the top edge needs to be ground smooth. if you ever have them do a door window make sure you specify which edge you want sanded and polished.
one more thing on that. i have had some shops do a real nice polish on the top edge and some shops that just sand it. i guess some guys are better at it than others.

I had a hard time rolling my side windows up because the front/back edges were not finished. I would suggest you have a pencil edge ground into the top, front and back edges while leaving the bottom edge square. The bottom edge needs to be gripped onto by the window regulator so leave it un-ground.

Looks like you’re in WA. Sanders Glass is there too. I’ve had good luck ordering.
I do know they sold lately…..
