I can still lift the hood off my 1930 Model A but it is difficult and I worry about damaging it by dropping it. I rigged a sky hook using an old bicycle lift. The lift has two rubber tipped hooks. I spaced the hooks apart so that there is a little compression force to keep the hooks engaged. The lift has a locking mechanism and the forward and aft parts of the hood can be move up or down to get the hood to engage with the holes for the center rod.

Very nice adaptation. I lifted Model T hoods manually for years and then met my first Model A hood. I was surprised at the difference in weight!

Non Ford but I have a 1928 6 cylinder Delage (top end French car). To lift the hood off is at least a 2 man job. I think they could make a Model A with as much metal. Heavy as it is, the car performs amazingly well.
Re that sky hook - It's better to use your head than your back, IMO.
