The flat cap can be found. You just need to hunt a bit. I'd check on the HAMB or Bubba.

Once swap meets begin again you'll find whole distributors with good caps

for reasonable.

I bought a black 'distributor cap' for a Mallory from NAPA.
Believe it was part number ( ECH MA 2 ) about $25.
Replacement for 209 series 'red' cap.

Thanks, Charlie. Maybe I was assuming it was a flat top, but that is what we all assumed he was talking about. To be clear, the "flat top" cap is a two piece deal with a water sealing gasket sandwiched in between the top and bottom pieces.

If not, then he's in luck for any Napa should be able to help with for around $20.

Edit: Look at post #8. 51 Merc CT even has the part number for the "modern" style replacement cap.

He needs a Mallory 4001 cap. Napa has a replacement cap in conventional style
Echin MA-5. $25. Matching rotor MA-7.
