Brake backing plate

Brake ? Starting to re-assemble brake backing plate to spindle. Diagram shows castle nut on the rear of plate. When I removed it originally the castle nut was inside the grease baffle. I like that the threads were protected that way. Does it really make a difference?

Jack, many hobbyists have incorrectly installed the front fasteners on the Brake Housing plates. The nuts were located on the outside originally, however many people have successfully driven for years with the nuts mounted onto the inside.

YW. I probably should add that it is a whole lot easier installing them the proper way without dealing with a socket & cotter key inside the grease baffle.

Often times on early 28's, the front backing plates were mounted with the heads facing out and nuts in. There were spacers on the early '28 grease baffles which made this possible.
