Headlight question

My 31 has two bulbs in the headlights. I know the bigger bulb is low/high beam but what is the smaller bulb for above it?

It is also good to point out the the small bulb was used on standard cars that did not have cowl lights. The small bulb and sock will not be found in the cars with cowl lights.

I have the two bulb headlight and planning to use the parking lights as turn signals either internal or external to the headlight. I plan to replace the reflectors as the reflective silvering is in very bad shape so My question is if I use internal turn signal lights I do not need to change the reflector "style" but if I go with external blinkers I need to change the reflector to the single bulb style (or just leave an unused bulb in the dual reflector.)



IF I go with a single bulb reflector will the dual bulb (headlight) socket work with the single bulb reflector?



I like the idea of internal turn lights but I have read where you cannot see the blinkers if the headlights are on so thinking external would be better but no turn signals on the car now so seems like whatever set up someone likes...

The only difference between reflectors is the extra socket holder. The sockets themselves are part of the internal harness. You can just clip the extra socket off to use in a single-bulb reflector. External signals need their own wiring anyway, so you could just leave your headlights 2-bulb so you would still have front parking lights.

Mine too. Someone at some point either changed reflectors or added cowl lights. The alright, part of my car's history that I will never know about.

Same here. The headlights were messed up inside so I replaced the cheapo chrome 1-bulb reflectors with original 2-bulb ones and added wiring in parallel with the cowl lamps. My original intention was to use the cowl lamps for turn signals, but I ended up getting all lights to work both ways. (That's another story.)

Mine also but that's because I added the cowl lights. Use the cowl lights as daytime running lights and the second bulb in the headlight as signal.
