Just tore down two engines looking for a good rebuildable block. One cylinder head (from 1930 AA) has Ford USA in the casting, the other (December 1928) doesn’t appear to have any marks. When did the marks appear?

Ford script castings indicate 'service' parts made after A production ceased there should be some letters and numbers above the water pump outlet.

I figured it might be a replacement. It’s the better condition of the two and came from an engine that was rebuilt and renumbered to match original serial number.

![]() ![]() This is a service head made in december 28th 1936 (L is the month,28 is the day and the 6 is the year) Laying it next to a production head it appears the casting isn't as rough and the machine work is better. Ford was very exacting with their subcontractors, demanded quality. |
