float height
Set my float height to 1-5/16" per the instructions in the carb kit. Also set float drop. New, USA-made fuel pump installed. Pump rod at nominal length. Engine running great, idles nice but I get an occasional "burp" of fuel out the bowl vent. Does this sound like a float height problem or too-high fuel pressure?
Instructions in the kit weren't real clear about setting float height; just wondering what others have used and if anyone's seen this problem before. It's a model 94 carb on a '46 mercury ('46 Ford engine). |

Re: float height
I set them at 1 3/8" to 1 7/16 slightly lower than specs. Also use 5.5 power valve and a old school steel needle, not rubber tipped.Float drop is not criticle as long as needle drops about 1/8" with float in lowest position [needle is open] to let gas in. Also check link from AP to throttle has no excessive up and down play. ken ct.

Re: float height
I'll try that setting. Always use the steel needle myself. Thanks!
Sure is nice to hear the sound of that flathead. Starts right up. All the work was worth it. |

Re: float height
Original specs are in decimal inches @ 1.322" - 1.353"
1 & 11/32" would be right in that range @ 1.340" 1 & 5/16" is just under @ 1.310" 1 & 3/8" is just over @ 1.380" 1 & 7/16" is over @ 1.440" Here is the repair manual instructions with specs: Here is a gauge I made of card stock to set at 1 & 5/16" That's the setting I use and it works fine.

Re: float height
You might check your fuel pressure. Specs are for 1.5 to 3.5 psi.
