Any recommendations where I can find a decent carb spacer for my 56 ford fairlane-312 4bbl holley carb...?
I found this on Macs but hoping for other options: https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_m...carb-ford.html |

Here is a link for a 1/2" spacer. The same seller has them 1/4" thick too.
If your engine still has the '56 intake and carb., the one you pictured will not work. '56 was the last year of the small base Holley 4 barrels (4000 model carb). What you found was for a '57 and up carb. I believe some of the restoration suppliers for T-Bird and Ford offer these too. Also, a 1/2" spacer was on all Fords and Mercs with a 4 barrell in '55. Also '54 for Merc only. Lincoln from '53 thru '55. Hope this helps you, Sal https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fits-Small-...frcectupt=true |

FYI... if the engine has had the carburetor & intake manifold changed it is also important to know which style distributor is on it.
Ford used a "Load-o-matic" / vacuum advance only type distributor for '54 thru '56. (photos 1 & 2) A '57+ distributor (photo 3) has mechanical timing advance in addition to vacuum advance. The two types of distributor aren't interchangeable (without modification?) due to using different vacuum operating pressure from the carburetor. For the ignition timing to advance properly the distributor and carburetor need to work correctly with each other. Also see the video at this link... The distributors in the video aren't Y-block Ford but they're similar enough to be a good explanation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFfnenMFQ3U . Last edited by dmsfrr; 01-17-2019 at 09:33 PM.
