Does anyone know anything about the bias-ply tires Kanter sells through their catalog? They are suppose to be American-made but they don't say anything beyond that. They are substantially cheaper than those being sold by Coker or Universal. I sent an email seeking more info but no response so far.
Thanks Tom |

It does sound kind of fishy. Most tire manufacturing plants are set up for radial ply tires these days. The price is usually higher on old style tires due to low demand. They would have had to made a very large order to sell them for a low price.

I would want to know what U.S. tire company makes the tires Kanter sells. Coker Tire sells B.F. Goodrich Silvertowns for my car. It is certainly a U.S. brand with a long reputation. I bought that brand of tire even before I restored my car for my other cars. Never had any problems with them. I wonder what tire company makes the tires Kanter sells. I couldn't find any clue on their order page here: http://www.kanter.com/p66-tire.html

I gathered that the Firestone's and Goodyear's don't make these older size tires but rather license out their molds and receive a royality...I was happy to hear The Firestone's are made by the Specialty Tire Co in Pa. They just became a new source for the Firestone tires which must explain why they have been on back order for months. Universal said they come with a five year mfg warranty....never thought of asking about speed ratings.. jfc |
