The Model A and Early V-8 world lost a treasured friend and a great restorer last week with the passing of Fred Meyers. He was a long time member of the San Diego Model A's, the Palomar A's and the Early V-8 clubs.
I got to know Fred in the early 1990's when I acquired my '28 roadster. He was always helpful with my questions, sharing both his expertise and even spare parts! One fall, just before Hershey, I asked Fred to try and find a proper original rumble seat T handle for me. When he returned, he told me he was sorry, but he'd had no luck. That Christmas, I opened a small box with the perfect T handle. My wife had gotten to Fred before me and he helped her pull off a great treat. Fred will be missed by so many of us. |

Fred will be missed by many as a kind and knowledgeable car guy always ready to help others. His '32s were great cars and he was a kind resource guy for the EFV8 club here in San Diego.

That is sad news. Fred was such a good guy. Will miss him at the Big Three and at Mark Williamson's.

Isn’t it great when skilled people share their knowledge and expertise. I have no mechanical or Model A skill to pass on but I do pass on skills I have learned in my profession. It’s silly and also selfish not to do so.

Sad news indeed. I met Fred years ago when he was involved in planning the MAFCA convention in 1990. He was a a pleasure to know him.

I bought the tool box for my delivery project from Mr. Meyers. He showed me the largest pair of headlights I had seen. Bigger than Dolly. He had no idea what the fit but they were priced right and he liked them so he bought them. I wish I had seen his delivery before the car got transformed into a hotrod. Would still like to see it even as a hotrod. I think of him often. Nice man to know.

Thanks Vern, for posting. I sat with Fred and his wife Charlene, at the final banquet when they attended one of the early Model A National meets here in New Zealand. They were a fabulous couple and I am sad to hear of Fred's passing.
