preparing an engine to go in my '32 roadster; 284, L-100, vintage tall tattersfield with a pair of newly rebuilt '97s from uncle max.8-1/2 cr. where would a good starting point be. just want to go down the road, not bonneville. thanks for your ideas!

generally a good place to start with 97's is stock jets...

JWL found best jets for 2 Strombergs on the dyno with stock 239 were .046.
Many reccomend smaller. I have a 276 and found you really have to watch for detonation. His book is helpful and discusses jetting in detail. John |

Hmmm...my '41 with a Stromberg came in from Albuquerqe...I am close to the Pacific - should I change the jets?

From looking at the grayish insulators on the plugs, my 284 59A/B with 3 97's with stock .045 jets on progressive linkage runs a little lean, but very well. Great acceleration. No backfiring through the exhaust. Getting 17 mpg on the Interstate. I am usually near sea level and have not run it at elevations above 2000'. So I would say that .045 would be a good starting point.
