My '46 Station Wagon has rubber floor mats, front to back. In the past I have tried tire shine/dressing to clean them and make them look good. The tire shine makes the mats too shiny and slippery. Any suggestions?

I tried that too, and what a mess! I got them out on the sloped part of the driveway, and washed the nasty silicone off with Dawn dish soap, being careful about run-off water on the jute backside.
