Default 1936 firing order

After a broken fan took out my ignition distributor (into many pieces) and radiator, I ran into difficulties reconstructing the correct configuration for the spark plug wiring for the ignition. In replacing the distributor. I used the schematic as listed at this site: http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/flathead...der-32-36.html

After failing to start, and backfiring a couple of times, I checked the rotor position. With the Number one cylinder at the top of dead center, the rotor was pointed to fire the number four cylinder (180 degrees reversed). I looked at the schematic for 1937 engines and if wired for that, it would be correctly pointed at the Number one cylinder wire. I'm puzzled, and any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
