I would like to know the correct size of the Model A fan belt. We are using the original generator and water pump pulleys. They are in all the Model A parts catalogs but the shipping doubles the cost of the belt.
Thanks |

After looking up B 40 fan belts on eBay, it appears the belt is 43" in diameter. It is strange the B 40 would be 43", verses 40" like the name. Is the correct belt 43"?

That sounds weird! One time, when I was too far from another supply, I used a B43 to get me out of trouble. It was as close as I could get. To tension it, the generator was so far out to the left that the belt touched the rubber part lower water outlet near the radiator. I laid a piece of aluminium under the hose clip to prevent it wearing through and replaced the belt some 4,000 miles later.

This is the belt I got from amazon. It works fine for me. It’s been on for a few years.

The "X" in the part number I mentioned above (post #2) is a cogged belt. The 43" that Rusty referred to in post #4 is the Outside diameter. I suspect that the "40" refers to the inside diameter, although I don't have one handy to measure to verify that.

Add things to your parts order, and buy from a dealer so you get the correct belt. The belt angle needs to be correct as well as the width and length. The belt I bought from Bratton's in the 90's for my 28 still looks like new.

The Napa one doesn’t fit very well. I and several othe people have had trouble with it.
The ones I have ordered from Snyders fit perfect. |
