I have a new Brassworks radiator 10 fin 1930-1 that my original cap goes in but then only turns a tiny bit and won't stay on.
I bought this at a local auto store who now is out of business and can't take it back. It has never been used other than to install it. I was going to try to grind or file it some so the cap would fit, but was advised to leave it alone for a possible return. So now my question is, do any of you have their 6 fin unit that is more like the original and is the 6 fin version also good for cooling and more "original" point wise for judging? Any problems with the caps fitting on the 6 fin version lately? Thanks Last edited by kimeccles; 04-15-2018 at 04:05 PM. Reason: changed questions |

You could call Brassworks and explain your problem to them.
Then ask them for recommendation/suggestion on how to correct it. |

Thanks. I did check with them and they said they would try to fix it if I return it.

In what way doesn't the cap fit? depth, diameter, or what? Pictures would help.

Thanks. I received advice to try to send it back and not mess with it.

Be sure your cap is the correct one. Make sure the cap has the correct gasket. Check your cap in a known good radiator neck. I assume you have did all of that but you never know for sure. If your cap has been used in a worn or bent neck and has two thick of gasket it may have trouble working correctly in a new radiator neck.

I bought 2 reproduction caps, and my original show cap and none will turn on more than a little bit and the cap falls off. It is just too tight to get the cap all the way on and so I will ask Brassworks to please let me return it.
Edited to also say that it does not matter what fins (original 6 fin design or new 10 fins), both are considered reproductions if from current suppliers and get the same reduction in points for judging, unless it is truly an original radiator. |
