Default 1950 Ford car front sheetmetal hardware

Hi all,

I'm starting to work on a friends car, it's a 1950 Canadian Meteor 2 door coupe (basically a Ford). A nice clean car, next to no rust. BUT....a previous owner took all the front sheetmetal off of it, then loosely put it back on to sell the car. Probably half the bolts are missing, and of the ones that were in place I'd say half are random, incorrect junk...

Does anyone know what kind of fasteners were used where the fenders & hood hinges bolt to the cowl? There are no J-nuts or threaded inserts at those locations on this car. It looks like the fenders were fastened with some sort of self threaded bolt. I can't tell with the hinges (ordinary nuts & bolts? Self-tapping?). I'm not concerned with bolt markings or stuff like that, but I'd like it to be close to original...thanks!

Here are some pictures of my '49 Ford coupe that may be of help. Inner fender to out fender are sheet metal cap screws. Core support is 5/16 nuts and bolts
Lots of sheet metal cap screws where sheet metal attaches to the firewall.
Hood hinges bolt to firewall with 1/4" nuts and bolts.
Feel free to PM me with specific questions or specific pictures. I will help if I can.

Hey Jarretts70, I have a 54 Meteor, and I live near Stony Plain! If it's similar to my car, I could bring it over and you can take a look.

Help yourself out -- go to Third Gen Automotive web site and click on Hardware Catalogs.
Then click on Late Ford V-8 Hardware Offerings.

Might be the stuff you are looking for.

I'll look at the hardware catalogue, thanks for the tip.

rjlester - I'm on an acreage about 15 minutes south east of stony - If I could have a look at you car it would be great. I'm in Stony a lot, maybe one day I can swing by?
