Default What are these?

After two moves and a few years off of working on my truck, I've forgotten things. Any idea what these are? Probably should know, but I don't.

go in the engine behind the cam gear in front and rear in some motors above the oil pump/cam drive gears housing. plugs for the tube at either end of it. if you leave them out--NO oil pressure

I've only seen those special threaded plugs used as the front galley plugs. I've heard that unthreaded projection has something to do with regulating/restricting oil flow. I've never seen that type of plug used in the back of the block as a galley plug. I had made a similar post here years ago, and the engine guru's posting at that time had no idea why that front plug had that untreaded projection. Some said they just used a standard commercially available threaded plug w/o that projection on their rebuilds.

My C69A block had the tapered plugs but no projections like that.

If I'm looking right, this is what is there. The silver plug was put in by the machinist that installed the full flow system (Red's). Not finding anything on the other end. Am I understanding what you're describing?

The galley plug you have pictured in your first post goes in the front of the block, behind the timing gear. It does not go in the back of block as shown in the picture you just posted. That's a larger diameter threaded plug in back. You can use a standard commercially available plug back there as long as it allows the gear cover plate to rest flat on the gasket surface, and it appears your machinist did use a stand plug back there. You should have one of the special plugs, with an extended projection, in the front threaded hole in the block, even though many here will tell you otherwise.

Theres a lot of restriction in those fittings to the flow of oil needed at the rear main bearing lots of effort to not solve a problem the way I see it. Be careful with how thats designed and what its expected to do one leak and you will have oil going where you dont want it. Plus it will drop the flow to the rest of the engine since its taped off the main oil feed passage.

37Flat, I looked at an enlarged view of the picture you posted of the back of your engine, and the rear oil galley plug installed by your machinist does not appear to be below the gasket surface for the gear cover plate. In other words, if that plug is not sub flush, the cover plate will not seal properly, and you will have an oil leak in that area. Just saying, check it out to make sure.

GOOD CATCH! Also check the front plug for interference with the cam/cam gear or bolts that may be too long.

Curious as to what the purpose and theory is behind the two elbow fitting and oil line in the rear of the block. Are there any advantages to this plumbing arrangement over the others for additional oil filtration ?

That was part of Reds, of Reds Headers, Full Flow Oil Filtering Kit. That plumbing in the rear of the block provided filtered oil to the rear main. At least that's what I recall reading here on this forum and also on the info provided with the FF kit that I purchased from Reds.

When I installed his kit on my last 59a build, I eliminated that rear plumbing because of concerns of damaging that tubing and having oil leaks in an area that's difficult to access behind the flywheel.

Thanks for the heads up. That plug is too long for the hole. Have to get another one. Haven't checked the front one yet, but at least I know what to look for now.
