Default 1936 Ford Original Style Radio

Would appreciate some pictures on how to mount the original style, very heavy, radio box on the inside of the firewall, presumably above the gear shift.

There are 2 small depressions on the 45 degree portion of the firewall on the drivers side. Those need to be drilled out and a t-bolt is used to hold the radio up. Roy at www.fordbolts.com has the correct bolts. Dave/Green Bay

Thanks, I do see the dents/dimples. I have a big mess of wires under the dash in that location that I will have to clean up first.

I've installed a number of those radios back in the day. Trick was to examine the firewall for a clear spot then drill holes from the inside and use J-bolts to mound the radio. Also, since the head is connected to the radio with flex cables, make certain they can exit the main radio and connect to the head in a run which is natural. I.e. install the head first and affix the cables, then test where those cables will enter the radio.

I also thought the dimples were the location of the 36 Ford radio box mounting holes, but the location would not match the brackets on the radio box, so I positioned the holes inside the firewall and drilled them out.

So measure twice and drill once for each hole!

In your question about the placement of the radio receiver box, you wrote "above the gear shift"... Did you mean the steering column? If you have a column mounted shift you will have to remove the sound deadening material above the column shift to have enough clearance for the receiver box. Been there, done that.. My '36 coupe has had a column shift since 1953, with a stock Philco radio mounted above it.

Thanks, when I started the thread, I had no idea where it went. I am learning more each day. I have quite a mess of wires from previous owners above the steering column. I will have to clean all that up first.
