Default Les Andrews: Trimming of Motor Mount Rubber

In the Les Andrews book he speaks of trimming the new rubber pads for the stock rear motor mounts. Its basically remove the three protrusions for the frame holes, and remove the entire lower flap. This trimming is apparently required to facilitate installation of the pads since they don't fit the frame properly.

Is this procedure still valid and required? I thought since the publication of the book the parts would have improved and this procedure would no longer be required?

The pads that I have came from Bert's and are listed as USA. Do these pads need the trimming?
